Datahistorie: PCens opprinnelse og utvikling tydelig forklart
I dette innlegget behandler vi datamaskinens historie. Fremveksten av PC-en, som har blitt en integrert del av nesten ingen husholdning i dag, er ikke så lenge siden og utviklingen går raskt.
Datahistorie: "Datamaskiner" har eksistert siden middelalderen
Begrepet datamaskin kommer fra det latinske ordet "computare", som betyr "beregne" eller "legge opp".
- "Computo" betyr "jeg beregner".
- I middelalderen var datamaskiner en stillingstittel. Disse menneskene foretok beregninger, for eksempel å utføre kompliserte beregninger for astronomer.
- Senere var det kalkulatorer, de første ble utviklet uavhengig av Wilhelm Schickard og Blaise Pascal på midten av 1600-tallet. Menneskene som betjente disse maskinene ble nå kalt "datamaskiner".
- I dag forstås vanligvis en datamaskin som en maskin som behandler data ved hjelp av programmer.
Utvikling av PC: Mange ideer - lite implementering
- Etter de første regnemaskinene på 1600-tallet ble det alltid tenkt nye ideer for slike maskiner, men problemet var stort sett den tekniske implementeringen av de teoretiske malene.
- Den første programmerbare "analytiske maskinen" ble designet av Charles Babbage i 1837. Den ble brukt til å utføre de fire grunnleggende aritmetiske operasjonene. Ada Lovelace kan derfor regne som den første programmereren. Babbage-ansatte hadde skrevet språket til maskinen.
- Maskinen, som skulle drives med damp, ble ikke bygget på grunn av mangel på ikke-økonomiske og tekniske midler - i dag er det kjent at den ville ha fungert.
- Det var først på slutten av 1800-tallet at enkle kalkulatorer ble bygget i stor skala og hovedsakelig ble brukt på kontorer i USA.
- Massebehandlingen av data foregikk deretter for første gang med bruk av punch-kortmaskiner frem til 1950-tallet.
Fra rommet for datamaskinen til datamaskinen for hvert rom
Datamaskinen slik vi forstår den i dag, ble da oppfunnet under andre verdenskrig.
- Til å begynne med var elektromekaniske, senere helelektroniske databehandlingssystemer forløperne til dagens PC-er.
- Vi skylder de store datasystemene til mange fremragende ingeniører, inkludert den tyske Konrad Zuse, som en datamaskin ble oppkalt etter. Du kan også lese hvordan en Zuse Z3 fungerer fra oss. Andre planter ble for eksempel kalt "Mark" eller "ENIAC".
- De uhyrlige systemene måtte ikke bare vedlikeholdes kontinuerlig, de hadde også bare en brøkdel av datakraften til en liten PC i dag. I tillegg var det bare en håndfull av disse datasystemene over hele verden.
- På midten av 1950-tallet ble reléene og rørene, som tok mye plass, endelig erstattet av mindre transistorer, og dermed gjort enhetene mindre.
- På begynnelsen av 1970-tallet overrasket Intel-selskapet at det hadde lyktes med å få plass til hele rader av disse transistorene på et lite stykke silisium. Det var fødselen til mikroprosessoren og en milepæl i datahistorien.
Rask utvikling av PC-en
Etter at brikken ble utviklet, gikk datamaskinens størrelse raskt.
- I 1975 lanserte Ed Roberts Altair 8800 for 397 dollar, det første datamaskinsettet. Datamaskinen hadde ikke tastatur eller mus. En skjerm kunne ikke kobles til, og det var heller ingen programvare eller applikasjonsprogrammer. Likevel ble Altair 8800 en legende.
- Legendariske Altair-klubber ble dannet - og Steve Jobs og Steve Wozniak, grunnleggerne av Apple, møttes i en av disse klubbene.
- Det datamaskinene den gang manglet var programvare. Dette ble levert av Bill Gates med hans selskap Microsoft grunnlagt i en garasje. Operativsystemene MS-DOS og Windows gjorde ham til en milliardær.
- I dag fungerer nesten ingenting uten en datamaskin. Selv i hverdagen, er datamaskinen uunnværlig.
Datamaskiner blir mindre og kraftigere. Hver smarttelefon kan mye mer enn den første PC-en. Grunn nok til at vi spør hvor lenge mobiltelefoner har eksistert. Vi vil vise utviklingen over tid i vårt neste praktiske tips.
